CANORA — The Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to 38 calls from Feb. 1 to Feb. 8, some of which included:
- three animal calls,
- three assaults,
- one 911 call,
- two breach of peace calls,
- two break and enters,
- two Child Welfare Act calls,
- one criminal harassment,
- five failing to comply with conditions,
- one fraud,
- two Mental Health Act calls,
- one mischief,
- three other provincial calls,
- one suspicious person,
- two thefts,
- seven traffic offences,
- two wellbeing checks,
- and two prisoners.
Hard to leave
On Feb. 2, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP were requested to check a residence on Fourth Street South in Canora for a former tenant who was believed to still be living inside after being evicted.
Police entered the residence and located the man hiding in the crawlspace with his cat. The man was removed from the residence and he was told not to return.
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched on Feb. 4 to a break-and-enter complaint to the same residence on Fourth Street South in Canora. Police entered the residence and found the man sleeping in a bathtub. When asked to stand up, the man proceeded to crawl on his hands and knees out of the tub, across the floor, and then out the door before he complied with officers.
The man was arrested and charged with break and enter and placed on conditions not to return to his former residence.
Breaking curfew
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP knocked on the door of a residence in Preeceville on Feb. 4 to check on a woman who was on court ordered curfew conditions. The woman was not home. The woman was charged with failing to comply with her release order conditions twice. A warrant is being sought for the woman's arrest.
House fire, basement origin
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched to a house fire in Preeceville on Feb. 6. The residence sustained significant smoke and water damage. The fire originated in the basement and the occupants of the home were able to get out with only one receiving minor injuries.
Abandoned dog
On Feb. 7, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched to a complaint of an aggressive dog in Canora. Police learned the dog had been abandoned as the owner moved away. The dog was taken to the Yorkton Humane Society.
Intoxicated 911 call
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched on Feb. 8 to a 911 hang-up call in Canora. Police attended and arrested a woman for being intoxicated. The woman had an outstanding warrant of arrest and was taken into custody to appear in Yorkton Provincial Court.
