CANORA — The Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to 25 calls from Jan. 2 to Jan. 9, some of which included:
- one 911 Act call,
- one abandoned vehicle,
- one assault,
- one animal call,
- one break and enter,
- two failures to comply with release orders,
- two Firearms Act calls,
- one Mental Health Act call,
- one Mischief under $5,000,
- one other provincial call,
- four suspicious persons,
- one theft of a car,
- three thefts under $5,000,
- one traffic collision,
- three traffic offenses,
- two wellbeing checks, and
- one prisoner.
Hiding in the cold
On Jan. 8, Canora/Sturgis received a call about a man found in a garden shed in Canora. The man was cold and brought to the Canora RCMP Detachment by the caller. The man told police he was in the shed because he was hiding from people. Police took the man home and released him to his mother.
Missing sign
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched on Jan. 7 to a missing sign complaint in the RM of Sliding Hills. A construction company advertisement sign was damaged and removed from its location on Highway 5 by Mikado. The investigation is ongoing.
Shoplifter turns over stolen items
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched to shoplifting call in Preeceville on Jan. 6. The caller reported a man was stopped outside the store by an employee after stealing items from the store. The man turned over the stolen items to the employee, then left the scene. Police have identified the man. The investigation is ongoing.
Vehicle forced into ditch
On Jan. 4, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched to a vehicle in the ditch on the Whitesand grid in the RM of Sliding Hills. Police spoke to the owner of the vehicle who told police they were forced into the ditch by an oncoming vehicle.
Trailer broken into
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP investigated a break and enter to a camper trailer in the RM of Keys on Jan. 2. Police continue to investigate.
