Canora Supers split pair of games

Supers bounce back with road win after disappointing home loss.

The Supers came up with a win and a loss in a pair of recent games, starting with a visit to Canora by the Parkland Pirates.

The Pirates came to Al Sapieha Field on May 30 looking to end the Supers two-game winning streak. They did just that with some timely hitting, good fielding and pitching as the Supers fell 8-4, reported Greg Andreychuk, Supers player/coach

“Kody Rock, like he always does, went the distance on the hill, allowing eight runs, only four earned, on nine hits with twelve strikeouts,” said Andreychuk. “However it ended up being his first career loss on the mound as a Super, as the Pirates found some holes while taking advantage of several Supers miscues.”

The bats were once again silenced as the Supers could only manage five hits all game long. Travis Mentanko cracked his second home run in as many games to go along with a single. Jayden Heskin had a double, while Rock and Ian Quewezance each had a single.

“Trailing 8-4 heading into the bottom of the seventh and final inning, the Supers loaded the bases with none out, but could not push across any runs,” reported Andreychuk.

The Supers travelled Melville on June 6 to take on the Pirates in Canora’s first road game of the season. The offence was in full gear as the Supers scored 16 runs on 15 hits, with at least one run scored in each inning in a 16-10 victory.

“Kholton Shewchuk started on the hill and pitched five efficient innings, allowing just two runs on five hits with seven strikeouts to collect the win. Brendon Landstad made his pitching debut for the Supers before Kody Rock recorded the final out.

“The bats were simply on fire, as call-up Jeff Stewart had a single, double, triple and three RBI in his Supers debut,” continued Andreychuk. “Shewchuk had a single, two doubles and drove in two runs. Kody Rock contributed a double and a triple, Derek Palagian had a single and a double, while Landstad added two singles. Logan Wolkowski, Clay Sleeva, and Jayden Heskin each recorded one hit apiece.”

With the win the Supers improve to 3-1 on the young season.
