CANORA/STURGIS — The Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to 58 calls from February 17 to February 24, some of which included: five 911 Act, two assaults with weapon, one assault, three mischiefs, two traffic accidents, two break and enters, 28 provincial traffic offences, eight other provincial statutes, one theft, two traffic collisions, one Fire Prevention Act, and three other incidents.
911 distress
On February 18, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to a report of a 911 hang-up complaint in Preeceville. Police attended the residence and found a woman in distress. EMS was contacted to provide medical assistance.
Hit the ditch
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched to a report on February 19 of a vehicle in the ditch south of Canora on Highway No. 9. Police determined the driver of the vehicle lost control and drove into the ditch. No injuries were reported.
Big bar fight
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to a complaint of a large fight occurring inside a bar in Canora on February 20. Police attended and determined those responsible for fighting had left prior to police arrival. Police continue to investigate.
Mop weapon
On February 21, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched to a report of an assault in Canora where a mop handle was used as a weapon. Police attended the complaint and arrested a male youth and charged him with assault with a weapon. Police continue to investigate.
Structure fire
The Canora RCMP were dispatched to assist with a structure fire on February 21 in the RM of Preeceville. The structure was a complete loss. There were no injuries. The cause of the fire is still under investigation but is not considered to be suspicious.
Short cut or trespassing?
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP received a complaint of a trespassing in Canora on February 22. Police attended and determined the trespasser used the complainant’s yard as a short cut.
Stolen farm items
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP received a theft complaint concerning gas, extension cords, and an aeration fan being stolen from a farm in the RM of Preeceville. The theft is believed to have occurred in January.
