The Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to 17 calls from January 6 to January 13, some of which included: three traffic accidents, two provincial traffic offences, two other provincial statutes, three 911 Act incidents, one threat, one fraud, two mischiefs and three other incidents.
Kids threatened
On January 7, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP received a complaint in Canora about threatening messages being sent to children on Snapchat. Police continue to investigate.
Icy collision
A member of the Canora RCMP was patrolling in Canora on January 7 when a vehicle backed out of a residential driveway, striking the front passenger door of the police vehicle. Icy roads were a contributing factor in the collision. There were no injuries.
Dangerously cold dogs
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP received a complaint that two dogs were left outside in the extreme cold on January 7. Police and Animal Protection Services of Saskatchewan continue to investigate.

The Saskatchewan Animal Protection Act includes:
• No person shall cause an animal to be in distress.
• No person responsible for an animal shall cause or permit the animal to be or continue to be in distress.
An animal is in distress if it is:
1. deprived of food or water sufficient to maintain the animal in a state of good health;
2. deprived of care or shelter;
3. deprived of veterinary care or medical attention;
4. in need of reasonable protection from injurious heat or cold;
5. wounded, ill, in pain, suffering, abused or neglected;
6. kept in conditions that: are unsanitary; will significantly impair the animal’s health or well being over time; cause the animal anxiety or suffering; or contravene the prescribed standards, codes of practice or guidelines; and/or
7. abandoned by its owner or by a person responsible for the animal in a manner that causes, or is likely to cause, distress resulting from any or all the factors listed.
Hole in gas tank
On January 11, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP received a complaint of a hole being drilled in the gas tank of a vehicle in Canora. If you have any information about this incident, please contact the Canora RCMP, or you can also report anonymously via Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers.
Firecracker danger
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched to a report in Canora on January 12 of an unknown male throwing a firecracker at the complainant’s vehicle. Police made patrols but were unable to locate the male.
Vehicle fire
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched to a car fire in Canora on January 13. The Canora Fire Department extinguished the fire. The cause of the fire is not suspicious.
