The Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to 27 calls from March 23 to March 30, including: one
911 Act call, one assault, one breach of peace, one disturbing the peace, one Fire Prevention Act call, onr Mental Health Act call, one mischief, two thefts, 13 traffic offenses, one other provincial call, and two suspicious persons.
Liquor theft
On March 23, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched to a theft complaint at the Gateway Co-op Liquor Store in Canora. Police learned a male had grabbed a bottle of vodka and left the store without paying. The male then walked across the street and got into a burgundy-coloured minivan. He is described as native, wearing all black and a grey baseball cap. House fire
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP assisted the Sturgis Fire Department on March 23 with a structure fire in Sturgis. One person was in the home at the time of the fire and was able to get out without injury. The cause of the fire is still under investigation but is not considered suspicious.
Don’t hang up on 911
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched to 911 hang up call from a cell phone in Preeceville on March 26. Police attended the location of the phone call and were able to locate the caller and determine there was no emergency.
If you accidently call 911, please do not hang up the phone. Speak to the 911 call taker and provide the reason for your phone call. If you hang up, your phone number and location is recorded and police will be dispatched to determine if there is an emergency.
Suspended driver caught
On March 27, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP stopped a vehicle in Canora. The driver had a suspended license and was charged for driving while suspended.
Unexpected punch
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched a report of an assault in Canora on March 28. A male reported he was punched by an unknown male while vaping outside his house. The male suspect was described as being short and scrawny, with some facial hair, and wearing dark clothing and a baseball cap. Police continue to investigate.
