CANORA - With soccer players ranging from U5 up to U11/13, the Canora Soccer Club is well into a busy 2024 season.

The club hosted a tournament on June 2, which saw pleasant weather and plenty of fun on the pitch, according to Taunya Kondratoff, club president.

“We played against Kamsack and Springside, and scores were not kept,” said Kondratoff.  “We’re trying to build confidence in the kids, and focusing on playing games with other teams, not just against each other.

“We did the tournament last year, and it was a success, this year went good too, and we hope to make it a yearly thing.”

Kondratoff said there are 60 players registered in Canora this year, which is down somewhat from previous years; “20 in U5, 14 in U9, 18 in U7, and 8 in U11/13.”

The Canora teams meet for practice every Thursday, weather permitting. Kondratoff said being involved with nurturing young soccer players is a rewarding experience.

“I love giving kids a low maintenance sport to play in the warmer months that keeps them active, and introduces them to team sports.”

Players from outside the immediate Canora area are encouraged to join up.

“As a club, we’re happy to have people from all over the place come to play in Canora,” said Kondratoff. “We have families from Preeceville to Ebenezer, and in between, and we love that the kids make new friends every year. Without our volunteers, we would not be able to make this club run, so I’m super thankful for them.”

Upcoming tournament action includes June 15 in Kamsack, and June 22 in Yorkton for all age groups.
