Extravadance Canora dancers excel at city competition

Local dancers display grace and athleticism on their way to a big medal haul in Saskatoon

The Maximum Elite Elevation Tour Competition was held at the Travelodge hotel in Saskatoon from April 6-10. Dancers from the Extravadance Studio in Canora achieved numerous top-three finishes, in a competition involving over 500 entries from 14 studios.

“I am so proud of all my dancers who competed,” said Kristin Weber, Extravadance Studio, Yorkton & Canora Owner and Artistic Director.

In the Tap solo category, Luca Propp and Anna Hort each achieved third-place finishes with marks of 83 and 83.5 respectively. Oakley Zuk’s mark of 83.5 was good enough for second place, and Abby Wilson won her competition with a mark of 86.5. Zuk went on to finish first in Acro solo with an 89.5.

Hort and Wilson each added second-place finishes in Jazz solo with marks of 86.5 and 91.25 respectively. Wilson placed third in Contemporary solo with a 91.

Lila Wilson achieved a mark of 85.25 in Jazz solo.

Hort won first place in Hip Hop solo with an 87, and added a score of 87.25 in Lyrical Solo. Luca Propp finished first in Ballet solo with a mark of 85.5. Oakley Zuk earned second-place finishes in Contemporary solo with an 89, and in Jazz solo with 90.5.

In their Acro duet, Twist Again, Luca Propp and Ireland Zuk (injury sub dancer: Anna Hort) won first place with a mark of 86.5. Propp and injury sub dancer Oakley Zuk took first in the Tap duet, Ride the Train, with an 86. Propp won a third competition with injury sub dancer Lila Wilson in the Ballet duet, Clue by scoring 86.

In the Tap group presentation of War, Anna Hort, Jillian Newton, Lila Wilson and Oakley Zuk achieved a score of 82.5.

Pointe group dancers Anna Hort, Jillian Newton and Oakley Zuk scored 85.5 and finished second in their Chinese Checkers dance.

Canora dancers were also involved in other competitions with Extravadance dancers from Preeceville and Yorkton.

Jillian Newton of Canora was part of the Evil Step Sisters Theatre Trio which finished first with a mark of 87.

In the Lyrical Group dance, I Surrender, Lila Wilson, Oakley Zuk, Anna Hort, Irene Zuk and Luca Propp were members of the group which scored 88 and first place.

In the Hip Hop group dance, Uno, a second-place score of 83.5 was achieved by group members Anna Hort, Luca Propp, Ireland Zuk and Oakley Zuk.

First place in the Contemporary Group dance, Marilyn, with a score of 88.5 went to a group which included: Anna Hort, Abby Wilson and Oakley Zuk.

First place in the Ballet group dance, Dominoes, was earned with a score of 88.5 by a group which included: Anna Hort, Jillian Newton and Oakley Zuk.

Abby Wilson, along with her partner Kendall Veer, won first place with a mark of 88.75 with their Tap duet, Last Dance.

The Aladdin production won first place with a mark of 97.5, along with a choreography award and the highest mark of the competition. Canora members of the group were: Anna Hort, Jillian Newton, Luca Propp, Lila Wilson, and Oakley Zuk.

The Acro Group won first place with a mark of 91.25 for their presentation of Body Language, which won a choreography award. The group included: Anna Hort, Abby Wilson and Oakley Zuk.

In the Jazz group competition, the Trouble dance scored 86 and first place. Group members included: Anna Hort, Luca Propp, Ireland Zuk and Oakley Zuk.

The Fosse Jazz Group earned second place with a mark of 91.75 and was the Group Elevation Challenge Runner Up. Group members from Canora were: Anna Hort, Abby Wilson, Oakley Zuk, and Lila Wilson.

Lila and Abby Wilson were also members of the Ballet group which performed The Crown with a first-place mark of 88.5. The performance earned a choreography award.
