In spite of loss, Canora Supers wrap up first place

Supers have a return engagement with Langenburg in first playoff round.

On July 6, the Canora Supers hosted the Langenburg Legends in the regular season finale, with the Legends coming out on top by the score of 16-11. In spite of the loss, the Supers clinched first place to close out the regular season, according to Greg Andreychuk, player/coach. The offence churned out 11 runs on 14 hits.

“Kholton Shewchuk led the way with a pair of home runs, a single, and drove in five runs,” said Andreychuk. “Kody Rock added two singles, a double and two RBI. Evan Rostotski and Clay Sleeva each had two hits. Recording one single each were Phil Sobkow, Derek Palagian, Darcy Blommaert and Brendon Landstad.”

The pitching staff had a night to forget, allowing 15 runs on 16 hits.

“It was an opportunity to get some pitching experience for players with little to no innings pitched all year,” explained Andreychuk. “Shae Peterson pitched a scoreless inning, while Derek Palagian allowed just a run in his inning-and-a-third on the mound."

The Supers finished the regular season at seven wins and three losses, and were matched up against those same Langenburg Legends in the best of three first round of the Southeast Senior Baseball League playoffs. Game one was scheduled for Monday, July 11 in Canora, followed by Game 2 on Tuesday in Langenburg. Game 3 details were still to be determined (if necessary).
