Incumbent survives challenge in Good Lake RM election

Ratepayers went to the polls to choose councillors in two rural municipalities within the Canora area.

The RM of Good Lake required a poll to choose a councillor for Div. 6. On Nov. 9, incumbent Julius Dziaduck was elected over challenger Dana Antonovich.

Ratepayers were required to go to the polls to determine councillors in two rural municipalities within the Canora area.

In the RM of Good Lake, a poll was required for Div. 6, where incumbent Julius Dziaduck was challenged by Dana Antonovich. Antonovich polled 20 votes on Nov. 9, but Dziaduck attracted 42 votes and held on to his councillor position.

After the Div. 5 councillor position was vacated in the RM of Sliding Hills, Jeff Schulz and Ed Keyowski were in the running. The polling results were 12 votes for Schulz and 28 votes for Keyowski, the newly-elected Div. 5 councillor.

All other councillor positions in the Canora area were filled by acclamation on nomination day on Oct. 5.

Even-numbered divisions in Sliding Hills all saw the incumbents returned: Tyson Beyko in Div. 2, Tim Verigin in Div. 4, and LeeAnn Weinbender was acclaimed in Div. 6.

In the RM of Good Lake, Don Rae was acclaimed for the vacant Div. 5 councillor position. Incumbents James Morton and Ken Demchuk were acclaimed in Div. 2 and Div. 4 respectively.

The other three RMs in the Canora area did not require polling.

For the RM of Keys, newcomer Dirk Van As was acclaimed in Div. 2. Incumbents Brad Knutson and Brad Hallick were acclaimed in Div. 4 and Div. 6 respectively.

The RM of Keys has one newcomer to council, as Chris Walker was acclaimed after Justin DeVries chose not to run. Incumbents acclaimed were Myron Kopec in Div. 2 and Brent Pelechaty in Div. 6.

In the RM of Invermay, all three incumbents were elected by acclamation: William Jack in Div. 2, Sergey Shewchuk in Div. 4, and Regan Graham won by acclamation in Div. 6.
