INVERMAY - October was a busy month for Invermay School. With the weather getting cooler, our fall sports are coming to an end.
This year at Invermay School, the students from Grades 3-9 competed for a Pass Punt and Kick competition. They competed at Invermay School for the top in their age category and moved on to regionals in Melville.
The boys that advanced are: Karson for Pass: Juan for Punt and Kick; Perseus for Pass, Punt and Kick; Weston for Pass and Punt; Bennett for Kick; Michael for Pass; Angelo for Punt, and Kashton for Kick.
The girls that advanced to regionals were: Rihanna for Pass, Krystal for Punt, Aspen for Kick, Princess for Pass and Kick, Thea for Punt, Caidence for Pass, Paisley for Punt, Hanna for Kick, Cassidy for Pass, Taelynn for Punt, and Jasmin for Kick.
The cross-country season ended with some very strong runs from each runner this year. Karson Enge placed 15th for his last race. Rihanna Graham placed 28th and Alyssa Mesias placed 29th. Perseus Mesias placed 43rd. Sunny Ke earned an eighth-place ribbon, and Lexi Grona placed 28th. Brielle Enge placed 15th, Jessica got an eighth-place ribbon, and Karlie MacDonald placed 28th. Hanna Enge placed 16th and Addison Enge finished ninth.
This year, Education Week was celebrated from Oct.16-20 and the theme was “Bright Minds, Bright Futures.” Education Week celebrates student success and the hard work and dedication of educational professionals across the province. The week kicked off with a Saskatchewan Roughrider Foundation “Get in the Game” Library Contest.
Local community members Ken Krawetz and Sean Wilson read short stories to our students.
This year, the Invermay School SRC gave out a free sub lunch to all students and staff as a way of giving back to the school community. This included a free build your own sub, chips, and a juice box.
Oct. 19 was also Bus Driver Appreciation Day. Bus drivers are the first faces students see in the morning and the last goodbye at the end of the day. They are responsible for safely transporting students to and from school daily and for all of our field trips. We say thank you to Glenda Kozak, Kailey Sabiston, Cheryl Knight, Floyd Hendrikson and Bud Johns.
Invermay School held its annual Open House on Oct. 19. The staff hosted a very delicious Beef and a Bun Supper, and parents and staff also played against the students in games of dodgeball, basketball, and volleyball. Throughout the week, Invermay School hosted the Scholastic Book Fair. The week wrapped up with a Kindness Rocks art activity.
The junior girls and boys volleyball teams wrapped up their seasons on Oct. 23. They played against Norquay and both had a good end to their seasons. The girls played really well this year and learned some new skills. It was an amazing year for them and they each had so much fun on the team this year.
The senior girls volleyball season is also soon going to come to an end. The girls have played hard throughout this whole season and have demonstrated dedication, strength, and great sportsmanship. They’ll be off to conferences in Rose Valley on the first weekend of November.
