CANORA- The Canora Gateway Lodge auxiliary recently made several significant purchases to enhance the quality of life for the residents of the Lodge.

Purchases made possible during this fiscal year by the generous personal, community and memorial donations included: two ceiling track lifts ($9,180), a 56-inch television for the north lounge ($780), 10 television wall mount brackets for resident rooms ($500), and a recliner (($1,750) for the comfort of family members of palliative residents. The recliner was recently ordered and has not yet arrived. The maintenance department recently completed installing 64 washable white boards ($7,800) in each resident’s room to enable residents to display their personal photos and cards. The therapeutic horticulture program received a donation of $500 towards the purchase of new plants and accessories.

Meeting as an organization during COVID-19 has been a challenge, according to Deb Stroeder, newly-elected auxiliary president. “We have been doing a lot of teleconferencing but have managed to continue with the organization’s mandate of striving to make life a little more comfortable and enjoyable for the residents, their families and staff. COVID protocols have curtailed our usual fundraising activities but donations still arrive to help us continue to move forward,” Stroeder said.

Other executive members include: Donna Kitzan, vice-president; Deb Wasyliw, treasurer, and Leanne Buchinski, secretary.

“We are always looking for new members to join our team,” concluded Stroeder.
