The Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to 30 calls from January 27 to February 3, some of which included: one traffic accident, one assault with a weapon, one assault, one uttering threats, one demonstration, two frauds, seven provincial traffic offences, eight other provincial statutes, two 911 Act situations, and six other incidents.
Snowmobile engine theft
On January 27, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP received a report that an engine was stolen from a snowmobile parked outside a residence in Preeceville. If you have any information about this incident, please contact the Canora RCMP, or you can also report anonymously via Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers.
Freedom Convoy support
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP received a traffic complaint on January 29 concerning protesters obstructing traffic in Sturgis. Police attended and spoke to numerous individuals displaying signs and showing support for the Freedom Convoy in Ottawa.
Hatchet incident
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched to an assault in the RM of Clayton on January 30. Police attended the call and learned a male subject threatened and attempted to assault another male with a hatchet. Police arrested the male suspect and charged him with assault with a weapon and uttering threats.
Residential disturbance
On January 30, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched to a disturbance in Preeceville involving a male acting up inside a residence. Police spoke with the complainant who advised the male subject had left the home. Police made a patrol but were unable to locate the male suspect.
Gotcha!
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP received a complaint on January 30 of an intoxicated male inside a Canora residence causing a disturbance. Police attended the call and observed the male running out the back door of the house. After a short foot pursuit, the male was arrested and held in custody until sober.
Bitter speeder
On February 1, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched to a complaint of a 911 hang-up call south of Canora on Highway No. 9. Police investigated the complaint and learned a male had passed a marked Highway Patrol vehicle and was subsequently pulled over by the Highway Patrol officer for speeding. The male became upset and called 911 to report the officer for pulling him over. The Saskatchewan Highway Patrol is on-road law enforcement with trained, uniformed officers, who are dedicated to saving lives and reducing injuries on the Saskatchewan highway system. The RCMP regularly works with Highway Patrol officers on traffic enforcement initiatives and jointly attending calls for service through the Provincial Protection and Response Team.
Checking on kids
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP assisted Saskatchewan Child Family Services with checking on the wellbeing of children at a Canora residence on February 2.
Co-op damage
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP received a complaint on February 2 that an unknown vehicle struck and damaged the fence at the old Co-op site in Preeceville.
