The students and staff of the Canora Junior Elementary School (CJES) held a special fundraiser event to raise money for the construction of a new playground.
The festivities began at 9:45 a.m. on Friday with a dunk tank being set up for all ages to try out. Three balls cost $5. The dunk tank featured three volunteers waiting to be dunked: Rod Steciuk, the CJES principal; Cal Homeniuk of Key Chevrolet, Eugene Chorneyko, a teacher, and Shannon Leson of Leson’s Funeral Home. Students were given the beginning throws in an attempt to dunk Steciuk before the adults were allowed to pay for their chances. The tank was up to provide entertainment and amusement until 3:30 p.m.
A barbecue lunch was also hosted from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. A cheeseburger or hamburger cost $5 when purchased with a drink, and a hot dog and drink cost $4.
Key Chevrolet sponsored the event and participated with an addition called Buick Drive For Your Students, where every test drive of a Buick results in the donation of $20 to the fundraiser. They also held a draw for two tickets to Dauphin Country Fest.
