KAMSACK — The OCC Hall was packed to the brim with attendees dressed up for the Halloween season. With an eerie fog encasing the building, the bands playing for the Sounds of Halloween party rolled out.
The Qarah, a local Kamsack band, was the first to hit the stage and rock out. They played some of their own songs, such as Decency, a song that lead singer Ramsay Moore said was inspired by the movie Sound of Freedom.
“Man, I saw that and it just absolutely wrecked me. I suggest go check it out. If you haven't seen it. This song has a little bit to do about that. So it's called Decency.”
Another song The Qarah played was Cover Call which Moore said was inspired by his anniversary, “I wrote this one. This was inspired by recently getting married and it's three years since we've just had our wedding anniversary, Oct. 10, 2020.It's just about the busyness of life. We have those special people in our lives, right? And there's so many things, being pulled this way, that way, and all that stuff.
"This song is about just fighting, fighting to become more, fighting for those people around you that are special. Because life is short, so short and so easy to go through life and you just go on to forget about things that are most important to you and before you know it. people can leave on their own to do their own thing.
"I just challenge you to hold those people that are important. To fight to make them a part of your life.”
After The Qarah’s energetic performance and a short break so the bands could set up more equipment, Dead Levee, a Saskatchewan Rock Band with roots from the Kamsack area, didn’t hesitate to make the room quake with their high-calibre rock ’n’ roll. The performance was a testament to the fact that the band was recently nominated for a Saskatchewan Music Award for Best Rock Artist for 2023.
The event was not only a showcase of musical talent but also served as a charitable endeavour. The proceeds from the concert were directed towards the Playhouse Theatre, including a prize table, a haunted martini bar, a costume contest, hot dogs, spring rolls, along with many other treats and drinks.
