KAMSACK—During the Legacy Co-op Fuel Good Day on Sept. 19, a barbeque hosted by Rebel Cat Rescue at the Kamsack Co-op C-store brought together residents to contribute to a good cause.
Attendees engaged in casual conversations, sharing stories and experiences while enjoying the barbeque. While the atmosphere was relaxed, the primary focus was on fundraising to support Rebel Cat Rescue. According to Rebel Cat Rescue, the event sold 400 hotdogs and raised $521 in donations in total.
Rebel Cat Rescue is a local animal rescue organization based in Yorkton that also covers the Kamsack area. Representatives from the organization were present to provide information and engage with attendees. They emphasized their ongoing need for volunteers and foster families to help further their mission.
Kristen, one of the volunteers from the organization, shared their experiences and encouraged attendees to support their cause. Kristie stated, "If you can't foster, come volunteer with us. We've got lots of events and fundraisers coming up. Any help is appreciated. We have probably 20 volunteers right now."
Despite challenges, including an intake freeze due to increasing surrenders and rescues, the Rebel Cat Rescue Society remains steadfast in its mission. They mentioned a potential partnership with a rescue organization in British Columbia to alleviate the situation in the near future, The Cat Therapy and Rescue Society from Mission Hills, British Columbia.
Kristen said, “We have a partnership with a rescue in B.C. I know they've been pretty busy with the wildfires and stuff like that, but we're kind of hoping for late November maybe to take a load of kitties out there. We've taken upwards of, like, 75 at a time, and they usually are a lot more successful at getting them all adopted a lot quicker than we are here. So if they take 75, then we can take in 75.”
With the event's success and ongoing dedication of volunteers, it is evident that the community remains steadfast in supporting the Rebel Cat Rescue Society's mission to provide a better life for felines in distress.
