KAMSACK — Doing their part to “let kindness grow” on Pink Shirt Day, Victoria School students in Kamsack visited several places in the community on Feb. 26 to show kindness and thankfulness to community helpers.
The school’s kindergarten class visited the Kamsack Fire Hall, where they presented thank-you cards for the firefighters, said Keri Lindsay, their teacher. The students had coloured the cards themselves.
Also attending the fire hall were members of the pre-kindergarten class, said Brooke Olson, their teacher. The students had previously visited the Kamsack Veterinary Clinic where they gave the staff cookies that were baked in the Victoria School kitchen.
Students visited several places within the community to help recognize Pink Shirt Day, including care homes, the Broda Sportsplex and the ambulance base.
“Our 2025 Pink Shirt Day design is all about cultivating a community of kindness,” said the Pink Shirt Day webpage. “Just like tending to a garden, together we can each help nurture a sense of belonging where we live, work, and go to school.
“It all starts with small gestures; a kind word, an offer of support or understanding,” it said. “If we plant enough, pretty soon, more will be sprouting up all around us. By sprinkling these seeds of empathy and compassion, we can work towards a world without bullying and let kindness grow.
“Bullying is a major problem in our schools, workplaces, homes, and online. Over February, and throughout the year, Pink Shirt Day aims to raise awareness of these issues, as well as raise funds to support programs that foster children’s healthy self-esteem.
“Pink Shirt Day falls on the last Wednesday of February every year,” the webpage says. “Join us…in our mission to create a more kind, inclusive world by raising awareness and funds for anti-bullying initiatives.”
