A Christmas concert featuring classic, old-time country music and holiday favorites was enough to get the toes tapping from people of all generations last week.
On Friday night, November 29, legendary fiddler Scott Woods and his band put on their ‘Country Christmas’ show in front of a virtual sellout crowd at the Outlook Civic Centre in support of the Macrorie School Heritage & Museum Society.
The two-hour show featured a bevy of holiday hits and showcased the talents of Woods and his entire band, including guitarist Steve Piticco, pianist/fiddler Kendra Norris, guitarist/vocalist Naomi Bristow, and 15-year old fiddler/drummer/step dancer Leo Stock.
There was something during the concert for every person of every age. Woods’ exceptional fiddle-playing was the anchor of the presentation, the glue that held it all together, but there was ample time for others to shine; the young Stock blew the minds of the Outlook audience with his thunderous step-dancing skills, including one routine dressed as Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, while the 22-year old Bristow at one point brought the house down with a powerful Christmas rendition of ‘Hallelujah’, spotlighting an amazing singing voice that cannot be denied.
With great music, costume changes, playful humor and some incredible feats such as rolling on a barrel while simultaneously ‘sawing on a fiddle and playing it hot’, Scott Woods and his band left the Outlook audience with a major highlight of their holiday season.
