SASKATOON — The Saskatoon Fire Department is reminding residents to avoid accumulating combustible materials around structures after a fire engulfed a detached garage in the 1300 block of Avenue B North Tuesday.
The SFD said the incident was a fire just waiting to happen and attracted a crime of opportunity such as arson.
According to SFD, the 6:33 a.m. fire originated in a couch that was set on fire that later spread to a garbage bin and garage.
Crews dispatched had the fire under control by 6:52 a.m.
A fire investigator deemed \ the fire was suspicious in nature with damage is estimated at $50,000.
No injuries to civilians and fire personnel were reported,
The Saskatoon Police Service will be helping with the investigation and will conduct the follow-up due to the suspicious nature of the fire.
