PREECEVILLE - The Preeceville Harvard Air Cadets travelled to Winnipeg for a fun educational trip on June 1 and returned on June 5.
“We had seven cadets attend and we left Saturday morning, stopping in Brandon MB at the Commonwealth Air Museum,” said Nathan Karcha, officer.
The group arrived at 17 Wing in Winnipeg on Saturday night and then on Sunday morning they toured the Forks in Winnipeg.
Sunday afternoon was spent at the Royal Aviation Museum of Western Canada.
Monday morning they were taken on a tour of the Canadian Forces School of Survival and Aeromedical Training, where the cadets were shown survival skills and shown how pilots train for emergencies in the air such as a sudden loss of air pressure in the cabin.
They were also allowed to try on NVGs (night vision gear). Monday afternoon was spent at the Winnipeg zoo. Monday night was finished off with Activate, which is a bunch of rooms that allow you to join in a video game. There were a bunch of different challenges and skill-testing games, it was a big hit with the cadets. Tuesday morning was a tour of the Royal Canadian Mint. The cadets returned home on June 5.
The Air Cadet League has been in operation since April 9, 1941.
