CUPE hosts open house at new Yorkton area office

The office, the fourth of its kind in the province, is located at 6 – 230 Broadway Street East in the city.

YORKTON - The Canadian Union of Public Employees held a ribbon cutting ceremony and open house for their newest office in Yorkton.

Anna Iwanchuk, Saskatchewan Regional Director with CUPE said three staff at the office, opened in 2020 but not officially until now due to COVID, “work for all the locals,” in the area.

The Yorkton office serves members in many sectors and workplaces, including the City of Yorkton, Yorkton Regional Library, the Saskatchewan Health Authority, Good Spirit School Division, and community-based organizations such as Rail City Industries (Melville), Yail Harbour Inc. (Yorkton), Deer Park Villa (Ituna) and Accent on Kids Early Learning and Childcare Centre Inc. (Yorkton). 

Overall the office serves 20 locals, representing more than 2000 members.

“It feels like a home for our CUPE locals,” said Karla Sastaunik, president of local 4784.

Following the ribbon cutting an open house with hosted tours was held and CUPE Saskatchewan served burgers, hot dogs, and refreshments.

The office, the fourth of its kind in the province, is located at 6 – 230 Broadway Street East in the city.

The Canadian Union of Public Employees is Canada’s largest union, with over 30,000 members across Saskatchewan and 715,000 members across the country.
