Craik and Davidson volunteer fire crews were called out at 2:25 p.m. Friday to a blaze near Davidson.

DAVIDSON — It took a team effort from farmers and volunteer firefighters from Davidson and Craik to put out a field fire south of Davidson on Friday.

The fire departments were called out to the blaze at 2:25 p.m. says the Davidson Volunteer Fire Department on its Facebook page, and upon arrival “found a large fire burning in a standing wheat crop” and “patients in need of medical care.”

They say a combine, header, tractor and grain cart were “fully involved” with the fire and started to work on the east and west flanks of the fire, then worked their way to the head of the fire.

The individuals who needed medical attention were brought to a corner of the field where they were treated by EMS. The extent of their injuries is not known at this time.

Neighbouring farmers came with discs and a water truck to assist, and made fire guards “on the north end of the field and around the perimeter of the fire,” allowing crews to extinguish the fire, burning farm equipment and any remaining hotspots.

The firefighters cleared the scene by 6:20 p.m. and all units were back in service by 7:52 p.m.

The Davidson Fire Department thanked “all the farmers that responded with discs and water trucks.”
