Starting this week, users of the SARCAN recycling facility in Outlook will notice that the site will have moved to a new location in town, settling into its new digs at the north end of Franklin Street in the old Riverside Fitness location.

The new location was scheduled to open back up to the public this past Monday, November 2.

Sean Homenick, SARC/SARCAN鈥檚 Manager of Communication & Culture, said the need to pick up operations and switch to a new location came down to space, as well as growth of the program in Outlook.

鈥淲hat prompted the move was a need for more space!鈥 said Sean, in an email to this reporter.聽 鈥淪ARCAN has grown tremendously over the life of our current space.聽 This includes accepting dairy beverage containers, paint, and electronics.聽 Our new space will allow for more room for these added materials as well as future growth.鈥

As well, it鈥檚 expected that the new location will provide more room for staff, including expanding any necessary office space and the staff break room.聽 Homenick noted that it鈥檒l also allow SARCAN to expand on services and additional equipment needs.

鈥淭he additional space also allows us to expand our Drop & Go service (which has grown especially popular during the COVID-19 pandemic),鈥 said Sean.聽 鈥淔inally, the new space allows us to use more equipment (including flatteners and lifting equipment) to improve the safety, efficiency, and environmental performance of the Outlook depot.鈥
