Over six years ago, after it was learned that the original Outlook Swimming Pool would have to move from its unstable location in the Outlook Regional Park, members of Outlook Branch 262 of the Royal Canadian Legion struggled with the obvious question: what is to become of the Memorial Arch that was constructed by the Great War Veterans? The arch officially designated as the 鈥淥utlook War Memorial Pool鈥 is prominently featured in archival photos where it served as the original facility entrance. At its official opening in July 1926, it was the second outdoor pool in Saskatchewan.聽聽
Prior to his passing away in November 2015, long-time Legion member Bud Arthur passionately urged his colleagues to preserve the arch and its historic importance to the community.聽 Since that moment, Legion members have spent countless hours in meetings and consultations to answer the question about the fate of the arch.聽
On June 2, the answer was revealed when Wright鈥檚 Construction and Hank鈥檚 Concrete Service carefully and safely moved the ninety-five-year-old historic arch to its new home in the green space at the intersection of Saskatchewan Avenue and McKenzie Street. The arch will become the centre piece in the Veterans Memorial Park where construction should be completed by the end of summer.
