Unfortunately, there won’t be any ‘hurrying hard’ on the pebbled ice of the Outlook Curling Club this year.
The club area has been used by the Saskatchewan Health Authority for the last while as a local testing site for COVID-19 and as such, even if the Authority were to find a different location, the lengthy amount of turnaround that is involved meant that the Curling Club’s executive had to make the decision and hold a vote, the result being that curling will be absent from winter activities in town for this season.
President Kirk Pederson issued the following statement following the Club’s annual meeting on October 7:
“Good evening all,
First off, thank you to all the members who came to the annual meeting today.
The curling club got an update from the Rec Director on the current state of the curling rink. As most know, the club area is being used by SaskHealth as the Covid testing facility for the area. At present the Town is looking for alternative sites for SaskHealth to move into but, at the time of the meeting, no facility has met the requirements of SaskHealth.Â
If SaskHealth finds a different facility to move into there are certain timelines that would need to be followed. From the time SaskHealth gives notice of moving to the time they move would be 60 days. Add on the time to clean the rink and prepare it for use and another 30 days is added on.
So the earliest we are looking at is Feb 1, 2021 and that assumes SaskHealth was actually moving out, which it is not at present.
Due to this a vote was held and the Outlook Curling Club Inc has decided not to have a curling season for 2020-2021.Â
As more information becomes available we will keep members up to date.
Thank You
Kirk Pederson
President
