The writing staff of The Outlook were recognized last week during an awards ceremony that was broadcast online.
On Wednesday, October 28, the annual Better Â鶹´«Ã½s Competition handed out awards that highlighted the best of the best among weekly newspapers from across the province. The awards program took place during a Zoom meeting as opposed to the normal banquet event, which had to be shelved this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Outlook’s Shelley Luedtke was the 1st Place winner in the category of Best Feature Story for her interview/profile on Santa Claus, ‘The Man and the Magic Behind the Beard’, which ran in our December 19, 2019 edition. Shelley also placed 2nd in Best Educational Coverage K-12 for her article, ‘In the Halls of Outlook’s Schools’, which ran in our June 6, 2019 edition.
The Outlook’s Derek Ruttle placed 3rd in the category of Best News Story of the Year for the story that took on a life of its own when this newspaper reached out to the Mayor of the Town of Outlook to answer a number of tough questions related to community issues, with articles and related opinion pieces running in our April 11, 2019 edition and beyond.
As well, a number of Derek and Shelley’s other articles and pieces that were submitted to the Better Â鶹´«Ã½s Competition received high marks, praise and encouragement from judges, notably their weekly columns, ‘The Ruttle Report’ and ‘My Outlook’.
The Outlook was also awarded 3rd Place for Best Front Page for newspapers with a circulation of between 1,299-1,999.
Congratulations to everyone at The Outlook!
