Vehicle causes garage fire in Saskatoon

A detached garage caught fire on Monday afternoon.

SASKATOON — A garage fire on Monday, Dec. 19, in the 1800 block of Richardson Road has caused an estimated $20,000 in damages.

The Saskatoon Fire Department’s fire investigator has yet to determine the exact cause of the fire but concluded that it originated in the vehicle’s engine compartment inside the garage.

SFD received the call at 12:42 p.m. and dispatched three fire engines, one ladder truck, a rescue unit and the Battalion Chief.

Smoke was seen coming out of the garage as the first arriving fire crews quickly geared up while other responding firefighters were assigned other tactical duties.

Utilities were shut down to keep the fire scene safe, and firefighters entered the detached garage to extinguish the fire. The fire was brought under control at 1:04 p.m.

No one, civilians or firefighters, was injured due to the fire.
