For the season opener, the Canora Cougars football team won 20-6 in Milestone on September 4, but for the home opener, the Cougars lost 52-0 to Raymore.

With a nice-sized crowd out to watch, the Cougars kept the game close in the 铿 rst quarter, though Raymore had an 8-0 lead, said Coach Kim Eiteneier.

鈥淲e had one chance in the first to score and lost the ball on downs at Raymore鈥檚 five-yard line,鈥 he said.

Raymore scored three times in the second and 鈥淲e could not recover after some mental and physical errors,鈥 Eiteneier said. Raymore score two more times in the third and once the fourth to round out the scoring to 52-0.

The Cougars next game will be in Ituna on Friday.聽 The next home game will be on October 2 when Southey comes to town.

In the first game against Milestone, 鈥渨e were very tentative in our game and that was to be expected after not playing for a year. We controlled the game and we were never really challenged even though the score was close.鈥

Eiteneier described the opposition players as being 鈥測oung and small.鈥 Milestone got its only touchdown on a fumble recovery and a penalty that took the ball to our one yard line. 鈥淥ther than that they never got close to the end zone.鈥

Kyle Strelioff scored on a one-yard plunge in the first and the second touch-down was a result of a 50-yard run by Jilles Dussome in the second. The first half ended 14-0. The third quarter was scoreless.

Milestone scored early in the fourth.

鈥淲e came right back on the next drive and scored on a four-yard run by Strelioff. We cruised from there. Like I said, we were never in any trouble.鈥

The Cougars kept hurting themselves by penalties and fumbles which cost Canora a chance at three more scores, said Eiteneier.
