The LCBI Bisons football team seemed to learn from their mistakes in their season home opener against the Hanley Sabers back on September 7 as they played host to the Gull Lake Lions this past Monday, September 17.
The team came out onto the field with a newfound aggression and energy, maintaining control and managing to stave off much of what the Lions had to offer.
In the first quarter, the first touchdown of the game went to LCBI #8 Justin Morken at the 9:43 mark, making a great dash downfield where he almost lost his footing, but soldiered through for the points and the convert was good. Not to be deterred, Gull Lake got on the board next with a TD made by #13 Anthony Lamarre at 8:30, but the convert was no good. That would be all the points in this block of time, but to close the quarter, Bisons #8 Morken made a great catch.
LCBI got back on the board in the second at the 10:25 mark with a TD by #3 Cole Chubak, and the convert was good. Both teams went back and forth with the momentum, until Lions #11 Daylan Radtke nabbed a TD at 5:04, but the convert was no good. The Bisons had an injury scare at 4:22 when #30 Abe Fimbo favored his leg, but he walked off the field under his own power and remained in the game. LCBI kept things moving with another TD at 3:37 made by #3 Chubak, but the convert was no good. Bisons #30 Fimbo got right back into things with 29 seconds left on a long run, nabbing a touchdown to close the first half, with the convert being good.
The third quarter saw no points put on the board, although there were some close calls and some impressive catches made by both teams.
In the fourth, this time it wasn’t just a scare for LCBI as #27 Aaron Tamlin went down with a left knee injury at 9:11, and he was carried off the field by two teammates. The Lions managed to rebound at 6:25 with a TD made by #9 Carson Krogsgaard, but the convert was no good. LCBI came back with another TD made by #1 Brody Holmlund-McLeod at the 1:29 mark, but convert was no good. With just 25 seconds left, Gull Lake made their last touchdown of the game, scored by #11 Radtke, but LCBI wasn’t done yet either, as #30 Fimbo snatched the ball on the very next play and darted downfield to make the last touchdown of the game with 14 seconds left, but convert was no good.
Final score was a 40-26 win for the Bisons.
LCBI will hope to keep up the momentum when they visit Hanley this coming Friday afternoon in a rematch from the season opener against the Sabers.
