The LCBI Bisons football team is headed to the big dance, AKA the provincial quarter finals.
It seemed like nothing was going to stand in the team’s way as they took to the home field on Saturday afternoon, October 20 to take on the visiting Gull Lake Lions in Conference #1 playoff action.
However, things didn’t start out that way at the very beginning of the first quarter, as Lions #11 Daylan Radtke darted down the field for a touchdown on the very first play of the game, convert good, which may have worried some LCBI fans that this was a sign of things to come. But the Bisons came back at the 8:09 mark when #30 Abe Fimbo made a touchdown, convert good. At that point, the momentum shifted over to the Bisons and stayed there for virtually the rest of the afternoon. LCBI #4 Kal Berggren nabbed a TD at 2:27, convert good, to wrap up the final few minutes of the first quarter.
The second would see Gull Lake stave off what LCBI was trying to do for most of the time, although the Bisons still racked up some points on the board, with #4 Berggren nabbing a TD at 2:21, convert no good, followed by an impressive interception by #73 Landon Douville at 1:25. The Bisons kept it up with a TD at 1:12 by #3 Cole Chubak, convert no good, and another one by #30 Fimbo with 33 seconds left, convert good.
Heading into the second half, LCBI was dominating at 34-8. Despite that, the Lions managed to keep the Bisons at bay throughout the third as neither team put up any points during these twelve minutes.
The fourth would see LCBI #3 Chubak nab a TD at 10:23, convert no good. The Bisons would keep it up with a TD at 7:59 by #30 Fimbo, convert good. The last few minutes saw Gull Lake come to life with some renewed spirit as they desperately sought some final points. They would get their wish with just 14 seconds left in the game with a touchdown scored by #60 Tyler Lascelle, convert no good.
The final score saw a 48-14 win for LCBI, ending the regular season on a commanding note.
The win advances the Bisons to the provincial quarter finals this coming Saturday, and the team will surely have the community of Outlook cheering them on as they travel to Hafford to play the Vikings, who are the Conference #2 champs.
The winner of the LCBI/Hafford game will face the winner of a game between Southey and Porcupine Plain in provincial semi finals on November 3.
