For the second weekend in a row, one of this community’s local basketball teams were the winners of their own home tournament.
The Outlook Blues senior girls’ team hosted a tournament over February 8 & 9 at Outlook High School, welcoming rosters from Biggar, Eston, Saskatoon, Coronach, Davidson, Eatonia, and Kindersley. The action started on Friday afternoon for the Blues as they took on the Eston Mustangs, winning at a score of 74-23.
The next day, Outlook found themselves matched up against the Biggar Blazers, besting them at 53-47, which allowed the Blues a slot into the championship game.
The other team that found itself matched up against the Blues in the tournament final were the Coronach Colts, who recorded wins against Kindersley (63-43) and Davidson (65-57) to take the spot. Davidson would go on to win 3rd Place in the tournament, besting Biggar at a score of 70-29.
Finally, it all came down to the final game on Saturday night, which provided spectators with one of the most impressive and action-packed basketball games played in recent memory.
Momentum swung back and forth between the Blues and the Colts, making for a true nail-biter of a game. By the end of the second, the score of 27-25 for Coronach, and by the end of the third, the Colts had forged further ahead to make it 44-35.
However, the Blues dug deep in the fourth and found a second wind, and with just over four minutes left in the game, the score was 51-50 in favor of Outlook. In under the final minute, that score became 57-56 for the Blues, followed by 58-57 with 25 seconds left.
Finally, with one last basket sunk and a last-play possession of the ball, the Blues had defeated the Colts to win the tournament, taking the win at a razor-tight score of 60-57.
Games like this seemed to show that it doesn't matter how cold it is outside because court action like the battle seen between Outlook and Coronach does more than 'bring the heat'.
