GLENSIDE - A number of communities across the province are upgrading critical public infrastructure through a total of 34 projects that will see joint investment from the federal and provincial governments.
More than $51 million is being earmarked for the projects, announced by Minister Dan Vandal and Minister Don McMorrison on February 29.
These projects will ensure the continued availability of safe and reliable drinking water, as well as the effective treatment of wastewater for generations to come.
Among the communities listed in the announcement are the village of Glenside and the RM of Loreburn No. 254, which will both receive funding through the Green Infrastructure Stream (GIS).
For a water plant upgrade, which will see the water treatment process improved to ensure it complies with regulations for potable water supplies, Glenside will receive $84,330 in combined federal and provincial funding, as well as contribute $30,670 to the cost of the project.
For regional water treatment upgrades to the Cutbank Rural Pipeline Utility, which will consist of addressing ongoing non-compliances in the potable water treatment system for the Cutbank Rural Pipeline Utility, the RM of Loreburn will receive $2,048,876 from the federal government, $1,707,226 from the province, and contribute $1,366,088 to the cost of the project. It was noted in the funding announcement that the federal funding of this particular project is conditional on fulfilling all requirements related to consultation with Indigenous groups and environmental assessment obligations.
