OUTLOOK - In football action on Thursday, September 28 were the LCBI Bisons, who welcomed the Unity Warriors to their home field at LCBI High School for an afternoon game.
This season marks the third year in a row that LCBI and Outlook High School have joined forces on the field, making for a co-op team comprised of both Bisons and Blues.
In the first quarter, the visiting Warriors started scoring rather early, with #21 Dax L'Heureux making a touchdown just 53 seconds into the game. He did so by making a solid run where he evaded the Bisons, and the follow-up convert was good to give Unity eight points on the board. Unity was just getting started as far as this game was concerned, as #34 Jayden Blanchette made another good run to nab a touchdown just three and a half minutes later, with a good convert. Two and a half minutes later, Unity was on the board again with a touchdown scored by #9 Noah Gumpinger, convert good.
The second quarter saw the action slow down a bit as LCBI tried to find their bearings and present an improved defense, but the two touchdowns made in this 12-minute chunk of time still belonged to the visitors. Ninety-three seconds in, Unity #69 Darrian Wildeman scored a touchdown, convert good. The Bisons tried their best to mount a comeback, managing to prevent any new numbers to go on the scoreboard. That is, until there was 55 seconds left in the first half of this game, as Unity #9 Gumpinger nabbed his second TD of the day, convert good.
The third quarter once again saw some slower action as LCBI did their best to put up a noticeable defense. But it couldn't stop the Warriors, as #91 Dylan Gavel made a touchdown 1:50 into the quarter, convert good. Things slowed down throughout the bulk of the time, but Unity still pushed through as #4 Zen Halter scored a touchdown with just 13 seconds left, although the convert was no good.
In the fourth quarter, the action was once again somewhat stalled as the Bisons threw all they could at the Warriors, but to no avail. Unity #39 Dawson Rusk intercepted a Bisons pass 7:00 into the action, once again commanding the edge in this ball game. At the 8:22 mark, the Warriors made another touchdown, scored by #4 Halter, convert good. Just as the time ran out on the clock, Unity #33 Ethan Bertoia scored the final touchdown of the game, though the convert was no good.
The finish would see a fiercely commanding victory for Unity with a score of 68-0.
LCBI visited Kindersley on Thursday, October 5 for an away game, putting up a much better effort and only coming up short by a score of 47-36. The Bisons play today, October 13 in Eatonia.
