OUTLOOK - A morning ceremony on Saturday, May 6 at Veterans Memorial Park in Outlook acknowledged and honored the official coronation of King Charles III.
Held just hours after King Charles III was crowned at a lavish ceremony in London at Westminster Abbey, which was viewed by many people who stayed up super late/woke up super early to catch it on TV, the event in Outlook may have been a brief ten minutes, but it further signified the riverside community's dedication to The Crown.
Members of Branch #262 of the Royal Canadian Legion were in attendance, as well as Outlook mayor Maureen Weiterman and a handful of the public as three new flags were raised to honor the new Sovereign, King Charles III. Branch members also renewed their allegiance to His Majesty, and members of the public were also invited to do the same.
Service Officer Garth Weiterman stated the following:
"I call on Branch #262 members, since we have officially a new Sovereign in King Charles III, that we as members of the Royal Canadian Legion renew our allegiance by responding to this question with the words, 'I do'. Do you pledge to be steadfast in patriotic allegiance to the Sovereign to our country and to the Royal Canadian Legion and to your comrades? If so, please respond, 'I do'. I call on members of the public, if you wish, to please respond with the words, 'I will'. The following is the pledge of Canadian citizenship: I pledge that I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to His Majesty King Charles III, the King of Canada, and that I will faithfully observe the laws of Canada and fulfill my duties as a Canadian citizen. Please respond, 'I will'."
To close the ceremony, those gathered in Veterans Memorial Park performed 'God Save The King'.
