OUTLOOK - In six-man football action, a sunny afternoon greeted everyone in attendance as the Outlook Blue Bisons hosted the Biggar Blazers on Friday, September 23 Outlook High School's RB Lyons Field.
If the home team's name caught you off-guard, it's because Outlook has a combined roster of players from both Outlook High School and LCBI High School. Throw together Outlook's blue colors with LCBI's longtime mascot and, bingo, you get the Blue Bisons.
The team was hoping to perform better at home than their first game of the season, held on Thursday, September 15 in Clavet against the Cougars, who won decidedly at a score of 67-6.
Taking to the field in the first quarter, the Blazers grabbed control right off the bat as #10 Jesse Dolman ran through for a touchdown on the very first play of the game. However, it didn't count as Biggar received an illegal block call against them, but that didn't sway the visitors as #9 Hayden Meszaros ran and dodged his way through several takedown attempts to nab the actual first touchdown for the Blazers with 10:50 left. The ensuing convert kick, however, was no good for Biggar.
Keeping up their momentum, Blazers #10 Dolman got his touchdown and this one was good with 8:18 left, though the convert was no good. Outlook #94 Thomas Lucas was hurt on the play and helped off the field by coaching staff. Another thing that wasn't helping the Blue Bisons was a couple of illegal procedure calls against them, staggering any forward momentum at the time. The Blazers notched some more points up on the board with 2:01 left, made by #8 Heath Trayhorne after catching an impressive pass. The convert on this one was good. To close out the quarter, Biggar quarterback #17 Hayden McMahon ran through to nab a touchdown to close the time on the quarter.
The Blazers kept things up in the second, jumping on Outlook's ball with 10:42 left and shifting things back to their side. Things slowed down a bit, and it wasn't until the 7:31 mark that a touchdown was made, this one by Biggar #17 McMahon, but the convert was no good. The current state of the game seemed to push Outlook hard and they responded on the next play by making their first touchdown of the game, scored by #79 Reed McLachlan who bolted downfield at the 7:14 mark. The convert on this one was good. Not to be swayed too much, Biggar responded with 5:03 left with another touchdown, made by #1 Corbin Neugebauer, though the convert was no good. The action slowed a bit to close out the first half of the game.
The score at the half was 40-8 for Biggar. Game official Michael Eliason was recognized for his recent award naming him the West Central Official of the Year.
The third quarter saw the action cool off and the movement slow down considerably. It wasn't until there was 3:22 left that any points went up on the board, scored by Biggar #9 Meszaros with the convert being no good.
The clock in this chunk of time seemed to be on fast forward, as it seemed as though the game had moved into the fourth quarter before anyone could blink. At the 8:09 mark, Biggar caught an Outlook pass, swerving momentum back their way. Again, things slowed down and moved back and forth between the rosters, and it wasn't until there was just under two minutes left that any points went up on the board, made by Blazers #8 Trayhorne with a touchdown, with the convert being good. As the time ticked down, Outlook found something deep within them and rallied back, with #4 Grady Shultz scoring a touchdown with 46 seconds left. The convert was good, affording the Blue Bisons some more points to end the game.
The final score meant a 54-16 win for Biggar.
Outlook's next game saw the team back on the road, visiting Rosetown on Thursday night, September 29 for a special 'under the lights' game that started at 7:00 pm.
