OUTLOOK - An Outlook man was recognized by the province this week for his dedication toward emergency services.
Doug Pederson was one of several provincial residents who received the Saskatchewan Protective Services Medal. Pederson was recognized for his long work in serving with the Outlook Fire Department, known today as Outlook-Rudy Fire & Rescue.
On Tuesday, September 10, the medals were presented to Pederson and other recipients by Lieutenant Governor Russ Mirasty and Provincial Secretary Don Morgan during a ceremony in Saskatoon.
"The Saskatchewan Protective Services Medal is presented to the most dedicated individuals in the protective services field," Morgan said in a media release. "These professionals are pillars in their communities and strive to make Saskatchewan a safe place for all."
Background information on reaching such an achievement shows that medal recipients have 25 or more years of exemplary services in Saskatchewan in the protective services fields including, police, fire, federal and provincial corrections, border services, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, the Canadian Armed Forces, as well as mobile crisis and family violence outreach services. A total of 192 Saskatchewan residents will receive this medal this year.
In addition to the medal ceremony held in Saskatoon, two previous medal ceremonies were held in Regina on September 3.
Recipients receive a circular medal surmounted by St. Edward's Crown and a certificate signed by the Lieutenant Governor, Premier and Provincial Secretary. The medal bears the motto, "Qui civitatem tuentur", which in English translates to "Who guard the citizenry".
Photographed with Doug is local MLA Dana Skoropad, who shared the image to his social media account and commended Pederson on the honour.
