Update to Outlook Health Centre steps challenge

OUTLOOK - A number of weeks ago, The Outlook brought you the story of workers at the Outlook Health Centre participating in a unique steps challenge for the month of September.

Staff member Colleen Suderman explained that those taking part in the challenge for the duration of the month would keep track of their daily steps, and the goal was to be the one with the highest number possible by the end of September. Up for grabs were cash prizes, as well as a number of giveaways that were provided by local businesses.

In an update, Suderman has provided The Outlook with the following numbers and data from the September Step Challenge:

Total number of steps walked by all participants - 14,037,349

Broken down, this includes the steps counted from the following four groups that were comprised of twelve participants each:

Office/Clinic - 4,163,435
Support Services - 3,442,970
Community Services - 3,239,692
Nursing - 3,191,252

Most Overall Steps in the Month:

1st Place - Heather Haapala with 536,352
2nd Place - Colleen Suderman with 512,415

Most Steps in a Single Day over 20,000:

1st Place - Dr. Mynhardt with 103,192
2nd Place - Tom Jose with 32,556

Most Steps in a Single Day under 20,000:

1st Place - Jillian Gibson with 19,067
2nd Place - Kaylee Tweet with 18,619

Third Place Prize for Most Steps in Each Department:

Nursing - Jennifer Derdall with 484,566
Support Services - Jennifer Sayers with 454,050
Office/Clinic - Ashley Pederson with 462,891
Community Services - Sylvie Larwood with 402,548

Special thanks are being given to Dr. Mynhardt for donating his prize money to the LTC Activity Department. As well, the challenge actually attracted the attention of one of the residents, who walked all month as well and received a fridge magnet for his participation.
