Village of Elbow 'flips the switch' on Christmas

Second event a big success in lakeside community

ELBOW - For the second year, the lakeside village of Elbow was once again turned into a Christmas wonderland.

The community's 'Flip the Switch' event was held on Saturday night, December 4, in which everyone powered up their holiday lights and decorations precisely at 6:30 pm for the public to enjoy.

While motorists toured the town and took in all the lights and displays, the Harbor Golf Club had around 65 cars drive through to collect Christmas goodies and hot chocolate, with Santa Claus appearing and handing out 260 treat bags.  As well, people could enter their names for a Christmas hamper of food, and it was won by Luke and Kayla Rempel.  To cap the night, many vehicles were positioned near the entrance of town as fireworks were shot off by Dale Norrish across from the hotel.

After the judges reviewed their findings, the following homes were awarded a combined $300 in 'Elbow bucks', usable at participating businesses:

1st Place - Pete & Aretha Bowring ($160)
2nd Place - Anne Wilson ($100)
3rd Place - Trish Knutson ($60)

Honourable mentions were given out to the homes of Paul & Denise Ganes, Rob & Carmen Letts, and Rick & Claudia Diederich.
