Nick Boychuk; March 16, 1922 - January 18, 2013 It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Nick Boychuk on January 28, 2013. Nick was born in Ebenezer, SK on March 16, 1922 to William and Tillie Boychuk (nee Shordee). His brother, Matt was born the next year. Unfortunately, William passed away leaving Tillie to care for her two sons. She later married Steve Korzenowski and together they had four more children - Olga, Peter, Irene and Jean. Nick worked many years on the family farm and later joined his brother, Matt, in the trucking business. He went on to work for many years with the City of Yorkton as a grounds keeper for the Yorkton City Cemetery. Nick was a very special person to so many. He was a hard worker who never complained and strived to do his very best at everything he did. He tried to keep busy tinkering in his garage and in his later years started to hook rugs becoming quite proficient at the craft. He made friends easily, going for coffee with them throughout the years. He always enjoyed the company of others, listening to their stories and laughing along with them. His family meant the world to him. After moving to Yorkton, Nick lived with his Mother and cared for her until her death. Although he did not have his own children, he thought of his nieces and nephews as his own and they returned his love unconditionally. He was especially close to his niece, Betty Ostapovich (nee Korzenowski), whom he helped to raise in partnership with his Mother. Later, Betty's son, Lenkyn, would become Nick's "grandson" and Nick always looked forward to visits from Betty and Lenkyn. As he aged he moved first into Queen Elizabeth Court in Yorkton then to Foam Lake to be near his sister, Jean Zacher and her husband, Glenn. He lived at the Wan-Dor Inn for several years and most recently resided at the Foam Lake Jubilee Home where the Staff took exceptional care of him. His final days were made as comfortable as possible and he passed peacefully with his beloved sister, Jean, at his side. Left to mourn his passing is his sister, Jean Zacher; his niece, Betty Ostapovich and her son, Lenkyn; his sisters-in-law, Evelyn Boychuk and Marion Green; his brothers-in-law, Glenn Zacher and Bill Bonsal; and many nieces, nephews and their families. Nick was predeceased by his father, William Boychuk; his mother, Tillie Korzenowski; his stepfather, Steve Korzenowski; his brothers, Matt Boychuk and Peter Korzenowski; his sisters, Irene Molnar and Olga Bonsal; and his brother-in-law, Roy Molnar. Requiem Divine Liturgy was sung on Saturday, February 2, 2013 from St. Mary`s Ukrainian Catholic Church in Yorkton, SK with Father Peter Pidskalny, C.Ss.R. serving as the Celebrant. The responses were led by Mr. Ed Pindus and members of the Yorkton Ukrainian Catholic Choir. The Cross Bearer was Karen Lozinsky and the Epistle Reader was Florence Shalley. The Interment Service followed in the Yorkton City Cemetery with Lenkyn Ostapovich, Betty Ostapovich, Robert Hornford, Barbara Maduck, Robert Bonsal and Terry Shalley serving as the casket bearers. The family kindly requests that any donations be made to the St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Building Fund or to a charity of one's choice. Friends so wishing may forward their condolences to the family by visiting www.christiesfuneralhome.com. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Christie's Funeral Home & Crematorium, Yorkton, Saskatchewan.
