It is with a heavy heart we announce the passing of our beautiful mother, grandmother, sister, niece, aunt and dearest friend, Bonnie Cross. Born Alice Bonita MacKay February 4 1932 but always known as Bonnie (or "Guns" to her brother Vic) passed away peacefully on February 26. Bonnie was born and raised in Fillmore, SK. It was here, at the local cafe, her lovely green eyes saw her future husband, Harold. She knew right away,"he was the only one for me". After high school she joined Harold in Toronto where he was working, a very big step for a young prairie girl. They returned home to Fillmore and on November 8, 1952 she began her married life. Betty Lou was born in 1957, followed closely with Susan in 1959. A move to Regina followed and in 1962 Roy was born. By now Harold was working for Remco Memorials and they lived in many different cities over the next few years. Dale was born in Brandon in 1966 and Glen in Yorkton in 1968. In 1973, Bonnie was widowed and left to raise her five children alone. With an impenetrable inner strength, she forged ahead and provided a loving, caring home. She was kept busy in the early years putting in many hours at the hockey rink watching all her sons play hockey. As they grew older and more independent she enjoyed working at Eaton's until it closed. Knitting was a passion and she loved crosswords, word puzzles, reading, bingo and the casino. Macular degeneration in her later years robbed her of many of her passions, but did not steal her ability to play the piano by ear. She loved to play and provided many with her gift of music. Bonnie had many friends and she made them easily. Her kind compassionate heart was one of her greatest attributes. She was generous with her time and always willing to help those in need. She did not judge people, but rather listened to them. She had very strong opinions, and was not afraid to share them. She would call "a spade a spade", and could use creative, colourful language to get her point across. She loved a good debate, a good laugh and enjoyed reminiscing about the "olden days". She had a great relationship with all of her siblings, and particularly enjoyed when Shirley came to town. Bonnie is survived by her children. Betty (Rick) Metzler; Susan (Pat) Koskie; Roy Cross; Dale (Des) Cross and Glen (Paulette) Cross. Her grandchildren, Russell (Amy), Luke, Michael, Katherine, Flynn, Loch, Dillon, Devon, Brendon, Jaden, Jenna and Jordyn. Her siblings, Vic MacKay, Shirley Morris ,Doreen Byskal and numerous nieces and nephews. Her aunt, Kay Morton and her sister in law, Vi Hanson and brother in law Morris Pollock. Bonnie was predeceased by her husband Harold, her parents Linus and Lucy MacKay, in-laws Dodie MacKay, Bea and George Johnson, Glen and Betty Cross, Hazel Pollock, Alvin and Lois Cross, Nelson and Mona Cross, Roy and Joyce Cross, Reitta and Ernie Tollefson, Dale Hanson. The funeral Service was held on Tuesday, March 5, at 2:00 pm at Grace United Church in Fillmore with Rev. Ann White officiating. The interment followed in the Fillmore Memorial Cemetery.
