Donald MacIver passed away peacefully at the age of 85 years on Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at University Hospital Saskatoon, SK. Donald is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Margaret (Markusson) MacIver and his daughters Kathleen (Fred) Boychuk, Linda (Karl) MacIver-Olsen, Donna (Dan) Duriez and Patricia Both; grandchildren Aaron Gordon, Kirstin Olsen, Christopher and Brittany Duriez, Kaelen and Alexandra Both, Adele and Michael (Kristie) Boychuk; great-grandchildren Samuel and Lucas Boychuk; brothers and sisters-in-law Joe and Muriel Markusson and Kristin and Jack Sauser; as well as many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Donald was pre-deceased by his parents Murdo and Ann (MacMillan) MacIver, brother John MacIver, sisters Christine (Jeff) Staples and Anne (Leo) Gagnon. Donald was born at Barvas, SK. He was the son of Scottish immigrants and farmed with his father and worked in the family owned general store and post-office. He married Margaret Markusson in 1957 and moved to Yorkton, SK where he owned a trucking company. Donald and his family moved to Saskatoon in 1973. He retired from Central Canada Potash in 1992 where he was a mill foreman for many years. Donald took great pride in his Scottish heritage, spoke Gaelic and had close contacts with many relatives from "the old country" as he called it. He was a member of the Saskatoon Kiwanis Club and had a benevolent spirit which was evident through his work canvassing for many different charities. Donald took great pleasure in spending time with family and friends and especially enjoyed watching his grandchildren participate in numerous sporting events. He was a great gentleman with a kind and gentle nature who will be truly missed by all who knew him. The family would like to thank the nurses, doctors and hospital staff at St. Paul's Hospital (5th floor) and Royal University Hospital (6100) for the wonderful care that Donald received. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, 436 Spadina Crescent East S7K 3G6 or a charity of one's choice. A Memorial Service was held on Saturday, February 2, 2013 at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church in Saskatoon.
