Ernst Bernhard Schleicher was born September 30, 1948 in Neunberg vorm Wald, Germany and grew up in post-war Germany with his brothers and sisters. Friends and family knew him better as Ben'. In his younger years he travelled the world backpacking and bicycling. When Ben came to Canada he decided to bicycle across the country. Ben came to SK to fulfill a life-long dream of living off the land. He settled near Jedburgh to start a family; during his time on the farm, he had four children. Ben enjoyed raising cattle on his farm, BBQ hotdogs and walking with his grandchildren looking for frogs. Those who knew Ben, knew he was a solitary person. He loved history, soccer and was well versed in world politics. Ben enjoyed his friends and co-workers at Wal-mart and told good stories. On April 24 Ben passed away suddenly on his farm. Ben was predeceased by his father Franz Schleicher, mother Margarete (Nemetz) Schleicher, and an infant sister. He is survived by daughters Janis (Kelly) and Antonia; sons Franz and Peter; grandchildren Kellen, Rhianna and Keira Crayne; and his siblings Brigitte (Schleicher) Schuchard, Anna Antonie Schleicher, Franz Xaver Schleicher and Josef Schleicher. In keeping with Ben's wishes there will be no funeral service. Memorial donations may be made to the Saskatchewan Heart and Stroke Foundation. Arrangements were entrusted to Matthews Funeral Home, Melville.
