Margaret Toth, of Yorkton, formerly of Saltcoats, aged 95 years, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 25, 2013 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre. Margaret was born in Melville, SK to Leslie and Lydia Toth (nee Nagy). She grew up on the family farm near Fenwood, SK. Margaret completed grade eight at Bernadine School. She then stayed home to help her parents on the farm. Margaret loved farm life; the animals, gardening, and especially enjoyed helping her father in the field. Margaret was a self-taught seamstress, sewing her own clothes by the time she was age thirteen, often giving new life to old discarded garments with her fresh creations. Nothing was wasted. She liked to knit and crochet. Margaret became a terrific cook, remembering and using old recipes handed down from her mother and grandmother. Margaret married Gordon Toth on November 10, 1938. They lived with Gordon's parents on their farm near Jedburgh, SK for the first couple of years of their marriage. In 1940 they moved to a 1/2 section of land in the Graham School district, 4 miles NE of Saltcoats. There, they raised their family of five children. Margaret and Gordon were a team, working long hours side by side to earn a living. They were self-sufficient, raising everything they needed there on the farm. Money was scarce, but food was plentiful. Margaret and Gordon enjoyed dancing and getting together with friends for an evening game of cards. Margaret was active in the community as a member of the Graham Guild, the Agricultural Society, and the UCW. She also held the position of Sunday School Superintendent for a several years. Gordon and Margaret continued to farm until their retirement in 1989, when they moved into their home in Yorkton. There, they enjoyed tending to their backyard garden and fruit trees. They looked forward to visits from friends, family and grandchildren. When asked about the jobs she had held in her life Margaret replied, "I was a wife and mother, that's all I ever wanted to be and I have 70 years experience at it." Predeceased by her husband Gordon and by her brothers and sisters. Margaret is survived by her five children: Margaret (Peggy) Halliday (Robert) of Rokeby, Marjorie Niefer (Mervin) of Saltcoats, Marleen Brock (Donald) of Manitou Beach, Merlin Toth (Lynne) of Saskatoon, and Monica Krassman (Curtis) of Regina; fourteen grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren. Donations in her memory may be made to a charity of one's choice. Condolences may be left at baileysfuneralhome.com. A Celebration of Margaret's life will take place at a later date. Arrangements are entrusted to Bailey's Funeral Home.
