YORKTON – Whitesand Regional Park played host to its annual Frozen Fish Tournament on Feb. 22.
The event saw 170 participants braving the winter chill to try their luck on the ice, with a total of 88 fish caught and registered.

Competitors were allowed to fish from two holes, with the first hole costing $30 and the second $20. Shacks, tents, and electronics were permitted and participants were required to bring a pail of water to keep their catches alive.

Ed Skehar took home the $1,000 cash prize for his impressive 36 1/8" Northern Pike. Clayton Bigsky secured second place with a 21 1/2" Walleye, earning himself a Danby freezer. Ian Greer rounded out the top three, winning a fish deep fryer and batters for his 11 1/4" Perch. Additionally, Vern Popowich was the lucky 50/50 draw winner, and everyone who registered a fish went home with a prize.

The tournament also ensured that all registered kids aged 16 and younger received prizes, adding to the family-friendly atmosphere. Numerous door prizes were also handed out, ensuring no one went home empty-handed.
