PRINCE ALBERT – Police used a vehicle’s OnStar system to stop a man accused of stealing the vehicle. He was later arrested after being tracked by a police dog.
Just after 1 a.m. Tuesday morning, Prince Albert Police Service (PAPS) responded to a stolen vehicle call. During the investigation, police learned that the vehicle was equipped with an OnStar system. As a result, police were able to locate and then disable the vehicle after they had attempted a vehicle stop earlier but the suspect fled from police.
Once the vehicle was no longer operable, the suspect, a 20-year-old man, fled on foot. He was soon arrested with help from PAPS Canine unit.
The man appears in Prince Albert Provincial Court later today on charges of theft of a motor vehicle, operate a motor vehicle while being pursued by police and operate a motor vehicle that is dangerous to the public.
