Incumbent mayor loses in Macklin municipal election

Stephen Lowe is bumped from mayoral seat after Macklin municipal election.

MACKLIN – The municipal election in Macklin will see only one new face in council chambers during this term.

Councillor Brad Bogen decided to run against incumbent Stephen Lowe, which resulted in Bogen taking the title of mayor with 212 votes. Lowe received 159 votes from 371 ballots.

Greg Bast, Kevin Fischer, Nicole Harbaruk-Syverson, Rob McCaffery and Rodney Stang all sought re-election for another term. Bast received 300 votes, followed by Stang with 289. Fischer received 280 votes, Harbaruk-Syverson got 262 votes and McCaffery received 255 votes, ensuring they will serve another term.

With Bogen giving up his seat on council, three new candidates were looking to take the spot. Dustin Gartner, Josh Kirzinger and James Stang were all eager to replace Bogen but it was Stang who took the seat with 188 votes over Gartner’s 181 and Kirzinger’s 142 votes.

For the election of councillors, two ballots were rejected and four were spoiled, leaving 366 ballots counted.
