Town of Wilkie announces mayor and council results

WILKIE – Results for both the mayoral and councillor elections have been released for the Town of Wilkie, with a bit of a shake up around the table.

Incumbent David Ziegler was up against Cam Pernitsky for the role of mayor. Ziegler was in campaign mode early, handing out flyers and getting his name and face out to the public while Pernitsky said he was campaigning his own way. With a difference of only 59 votes, David Ziegler, who received 194 votes, was declared as elected mayor for another term in Wilkie. Pernitsky received 135 votes.

For the town council, eight candidates were hoping to take one of the six seats. Les Henderson received the highest number of votes at 280, followed by newcomer Gary Neigum with 269 votes. Theresa Parkinson received 230 votes, securing her a spot on town council alongside re-elected councillor Clarke Jackson, who had 224 votes. Also re-elected was Jerel Wood, with 188 votes and newcomer Nadine La Greca at 180 votes.

Alex Majewski and Benyam Workneh, both who served on town council previously, did not gain enough votes to continue on town council. Majewski received 164 votes while Workneh received 106.

At the time of publishing, Returning Officer Rebecca Parent said 331 voters came out. With a combined population of all ages, the Town of Wilkie has a population of 1,195.
