Canora council hires swimming pool staff for 2017

Swimming pool staff, street paving estimates and staff training were among items to concern the Canora town council at its regular meeting of March 7.

Council decided to hire the following as swimming pool staff for 2017: Philomina Mykytyshyn, manager; Kelly Bazuik, assistant manager; Scott Popoff and Chelsi Reay, full-time guards; Abbey Sakal, Mackenzie Gulka, Jill Gulka, Janayah Merriam, Jensen Gabora and Paige Shyiak, part-time guards; Brett Popoff, Emma Mykytyshyn, Ashley Stusek and Garrett Bazuik, casual guards.

It was agreed to hire Walker Projects of Regina to provide engineering services, analysis and a cost estimate for a 2017 paving project at a fixed rate of $18,000.

Eric Boychuk, was authorized to attend a water treatment and distribution Class 1 training session to be held March 27 to 31 at Parkland College in Yorkton.

Brandi Zavislak, the community development officer, was authorized to attend a Planning 101 workshop held March 22 in Preeceville.

Appointed deputy mayor were: Councillor Brad Gabora, February to April, 2017; Councillor Eric Sweeney, May to July, 2017; Councillor James Trofimenkoff, August to October, 2017, and Councillor Kerry Trask, November 2017 to January 2018.

Councillor Brad Gabora was named chairman, and Councillor Sheldon Derkatch, a member, of the recreation and culture committee.

Named to the leisure services board was Gabora, with Derkatch as the alternate.
