Eugenie Marion Sanderson 1915-2011 Our beloved mother passed away on September 26, 2011, about two weeks before her 96th birthday, after a life of loving and caring for others. Mom was born at Nokomis, Sask., on October 11, 1915, and spent most of her youth in Yorkton. After completing high school in Yorkton, she worked at the Hudson?s Bay department store in Yorkton, until marrying Roy Sanderson in 1940. Eugenie and Roy lived in several Saskatchewan communities - Avonhurst, Regina, and Duff - and in Montreal during the war. They moved with their four children to Sioux Lookout, Ontario in 1950, returning to the prairies in 1959, to make Estevan their home for the next four decades. One of Mom's favourite pastimes was roaming the prairie hills and valleys, collecting agate, jasper, and other semi-precious stones. In her daily journal she recorded her thoughts and activities, often noting the many guests who visited the Sanderson home, and frequently corresponding with them for years after. She also was an avid reader of non-fiction, and a faithful listener to CBC Radio. She attended many shows at the Estevan Art Gallery and Museum, and took great pleasure from local concerts. Mom especially enjoyed family reunions, at which she and her sisters and cousins recounted their youthful escapades. For many years, Mom was a member of the United Church Women's Units, the Rebekah Lodge, and most recently, South East Tours and Trails. She also volunteered her time with the Canadian Mental Health Association, and was a long-time member and supporter of the CCF/NDP. Mom is survived by her four children, Garry (Elaine), Diane (Dennis), Patricia, and Bruce (Jean); sisters, Audrey Graham and Olive Woods; grandchildren, Brian Sanderson, Karen Runquist, Kathy Hastings, Dana Cooley-Clavelle, Megan Cooley-Barth, Dan Sanderson, Ian Sanderson, and Mike Sanderson; eleven great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Roy; parents W.J.B. Smith and Franciska Smith; brother, Ken Smith; sister-in-law, Helen Smit;h and brother-in-law, Duncan Graham. Eugenie was interred following a private family ceremony. Friends were invited to celebrate her life at a service at St. Paul's United Church on Friday, September 30, 2011, at 2:00 p.m., with Rev. Brenna Nickel officiating. If friends desire, they may make a donation in her memory, to a charity of their choice. Arrangements were in the care of Hall Funeral Services, Estevan. Thank You The Sanderson Family sincerely thank the many friends whose very kind thoughts, words, and gifts offered comfort and support in our Mom's final days. We also extend our sincere thanks to the staff of Home Care and St. Joseph's Hospital, who cared for Mom. We will miss her greatly.
