Though she had never studied art, Susan Michl said that one day she felt inspired to paint a mural of a heavenly scene on the fence at the front of her property at 220 Norway Road.
“I painted it but it’s God’s creation,” she said.
The mural of a peaceful country scene leading the viewer’s eyes to a “heavenly scene” in the background, Michl said. While it is not in sharp focus, it evokes a feeling of peacefulness
Using acryllic paints on pressure treated lumber, Michl said she has rough idea of what she wants to paint, but in the final product she sees so much more that she is convinced it is a product of God. The scene is “meant to bless Canora.”
Before starting the painting on the fence, Michl painted two large panels at the back of her house. She was so happy with how they turned out that she decided to paint the fence during recent months. She still adds some paint here and there and she is already planning on what to paint of the more on the portions of the fence along Norway Road and Canora Avenue. The main part of the mural is on the corner.
The painting is meant to be a welcome to anyone entering her property, Mich said. She is touched by how many people have said they feel a sense of peace1 upon entering her yard.
“This is a welcome sign and it very soothing to many.
